I have found that on different monitor resolutions, some colors are not supported. For instance, the "768x1024 256 colors" driver will not display many of the colors. Running the same form on a 600x800 setting will show the colors. Canvas and boilerplate background seems to support all of the colors, but items will not. Maybe this is your problem.
