SourceSafe:
Very basic. Not a server client like one would think. Should be named a version controled tool and not a CM tool.
It has versions and reasons for them and it does group development into projects
but you will not find advanced branching,merging,triggers etc.. No backup methods !

It does have a nice GIU, unix and PC "client", very fast and easy to use. easy to start with and very little administration.

Security - "soso".

MKS:
I am at the point of looking into it. Looks a little better then sourcesafe. has more CM abilities. All of sourcesafe advantages. Don't know much more at this point. (Very much would like to hear anyone who uses it).

ClearCase:

Unix animal. had a bad interface to PC (attache) my be they have done a better job with the new release.
Would not take it for a PC environment. In general it has some very nice features in it (branching,lables,trigger,hyperlinks,attributes) and you can do a lot with it.
And there is the problem: you pay in addministration and hardware. It is not your fast tool.
