Has anyone information on Digital's AlphaServer line in such a setup? We're looking for a new database server as our HP9000/H40 is getting old. It has 256MB RAM and currently supports about 30 users, 5GB total database size. Would a two-processor upgrade be feasible? Should the machine (using Oracle 7 as the engine) be ok for this kind of workload? Sometimes, response times get really sluggish although interactive unix stuff still works great.
On another note, what book could you recommend for someone like me (six+ years unix and network administration) who's given the task to configure a "new" machine setup, having no idea of Oracle / database management an related performance issues? Anything like "System Performance Tuning" for the Oracle world? ;-)
Thanks in advance for your comments,
Uwe.
