I actually think this story illustrates the value of a degree "the ability to stick with something", an important job skill. When working it isn't possible to cherry pick what tasks you will and won't do. So a degree shows that for 3 or 4 years you were able to stick with a program and deliver results. If you didn't like the class you should have either readjusted things so you did like it, or negotiate a different measure of success (switch course). Thats what we do in business all day..
