Trends in database technology in 1996 ?

Hi guys,

    I'm new to this group. Because I manage one of the few database projects in my company, I have been given the unenviable task of providing a white paper on database techology, market and business trends as input to our business unit strategies for 1996. They have given me a generous 4 days (including the weekend) to finish but -- what the heck -- thought I'd get an early start.

    I'd love to hear from YOU ! What do you think are the most important technology, market and business trends in databases today ? In your opinion, who are the most significant players ?
