GPF in Developer/2000 (from a neophyte)

I have just installed Developer/2000 1.1 for Windows (3.11) from scratch (no prior Oracle products on the disk). If I try to rename the canvas object name property, the program GPFs when I try to close the properties form. Details on the environment:

       Oracle 7.1 on Sun Solaris servers, TCP/IP prototcol
       NFS 5.1a on the workstation
       Workstation is Pentium with 32Mb
       No other applications are running concurrently

Seems like if something was improperly installed the program should have either identified missing resources, or exited gracefully with an error indicating missing components. Any ideas?
