I think ERWin and BPWin are fine tools for some needs, especially if you need IDEF support (e.g. US Federal government in some cases); I like the company as well (my brother works there!). However, I don't think there are any people within Oracle who use these tools except on projects where it is mandated by the customer. Designer/2000 is a great modeling tool, and it generates and reverse engineers not only database schemas (as does ERWin), but also applications (which ERWin does not). Designer/2000 sells for $3995 in the US, although maintenance is a little higher than ERWin plus BPWin (which is not surprising given that Designer/2000 has so much functionality that ERWin/BPWin do not have, like a real multiuser repository, functional modeling, Developer/2000 code generation and reverse engineering, and much more). In the past six months, we have added Visual Basic code generation, computer-based training, cue cards, and much more to Designer/2000. Over the next six months, you should expect to see MS Help generation, WWW page generation, C++ DML object generation, Graphics generation, and much more from Designer/2000, so you also get a lot of new functionality through our support contracts.

Anyone considering a new project should absolutely look at both toolsets. Some customers may even find that a mix of the two product offerings is best for them, and to facilitate that we have worked with LogicWorks to ensure that their tool can run off Designer/2000's repository.

Good luck!
