I have to agree with this sentiment; we'll have 5 newsgroups to read through rather than just one.
Also, my guess is that articles will be cross-posted to all the groups anyway, wasting bandwidth from original cross-postings, crossposted followups and the postings asking people to stick to the right newsgroup.
So, my vote is NO on the splitting proposition.
