I could go on for pages & pages on what I *personally* feel Oracle's strengths & weakness are... but instead of rambling, I'll refer you to the Nov 95 edition of Byte magazine. There's a short article reviewing 'Enterprise Database Managers', and it tests out three similar products, DB2/2, Oracle and SQL Server.
It's pretty good for answering your question about what 'Oracle has that the competition doesn't', such as row-level locking, consistency across platforms, and good scalability.
