Using a parity disk is not RAID5. I think that is RAID3 or RAID4. RAID5 spreads the parity over all drives. I'm glad you posted your results though. I've been preaching against RAID5 for RDBMS systems for years. Raid0+1 is the way to go. I've been using it since 1992.
