I am also on a project in which we plan to use Oracle TextSever3. We have just gotten in the CD ROMs but don't yet have any experience with them. I'd also like to hear about anyone's experience.
The CD ROM mentions requiring 32 MB of memory for the AIX platform in order to run it.
I've read the Oracle TextServer3 Concepts book, and the concepts look good. My first impression is that the design is not going to be as efficient as those provided by dedicated text retrieval packages (Fulcrum, PLS, Verity, Inquery, BRS, etc.) But the functionality looked pretty good, and the integration with Oracle looks like it has been very intelligently handled.
I have seen two demos of TextServer3 in which the systems were dreadfully slow. In one case, I think there may have been a problem with the system designers. In the other, the system was running on a tiny laptop - which might have accounted for the problem.
If anyone has any performance data, please post it.
Thanks.
