I have some limited experience with RAID 5. We used it quite successfully on a datawarehouse app ( 50 GB ) where it was mostely read access. For transaction processing, you'll take some hits on performance due to extra writes ( unless you've got one of the newer units with lots of cache ). This is holding true at my current client's site where temp and rollback tablespaces were moved off the raid array with some perfromance improvements. HTH
