SAP and Oracle Financials have different architectures. SAP uses a three-tier architecture with a database server, application server, and user Windows-based clients. Oracle Financials is two-tiered with a database server and application clients (either character cell users logging into the application client or use a Windows client running SQL*Net).

Until recently, Oracle Financials didn't have a true Windows client. It used (and still does optionally) SQL*Forms, and for a Windows look and feel you used to use Oracle Business Manager. That changed this summer. Also, the Oracle Applications division has a new VP who's ensuring Oracle delivers a featureful and competitive product.

SAP consultants demand more money because the product is harder to install and manage. Oracle Financials is relatively easy compared to SAP. It's all a trade-off.
