Oraperl and remote databases

What are the pieces necessary for Oraperl to access remote databases? How much of it is embedded in The Oraperl and how much is dependent upon the SQL*Net stuff?

Please respond directly to me as I do not normally read this list (but it looks like I'm gonna' now :) )
