FYI, Digital UNIX on Alpha supports db_block_size settings up to 32K (called Big Oracle Blocks). This allows the SGA to be more than 32-bit UNIX's upper limit of ~4GB. It was designed to take advantage of our large memory hardware (AlphaServer 8400 with up to 14 GB memory) as well as to speed up decision support systems, VLDBs, and read-only databases.
