sqlplus 3.1.2.3.1 startup file (LOGIN.SQL?)

I'm running sqlplus on a sparc10 under solaris 2.3.
According to the sqlplus documentation that I have, if I define a file
LOGIN.SQL in
First, it is not being executed as far as I can tell.
Second, can I tell sqlplus to look for it in my home directory?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
the current working directory, it will be executed during sqlplus startup.
