You are right. BCP is a wimp. Bud did you try the Sybase Backup Server? It is bundled with Sybase SQL Server 10.x Backup Server allows parallel backups to up to 32 devices. It also allows for remote backup of databases.
Try it. You may like it better than Oracle's EXP/IMP.
