As far as I know we are using tnsnames.ora. I have gotten several messages stating that the server specified was not in the tnsnames.ora file.

As to being fast on VMS. No it's not. Not here any way. I have a simple metadata request (Column names, indexes, etc. no data) for 3 tables. We have seen it take 60 seconds to return the information and up to 25 minutes for the same request. At both times all systems were being monitored and the systems seemed to be running about the same. Whenever we go at Oracle the Oracle Server always goes nuts and gets 95% of the CPU. Is that normal ? It seems if that is the case you'd need a very large vax just for your Oracle Server and I know our company doesn't have that kind of money let alone smaller companies out there.

Re: PC access, I am going to pass this message on to my PC people and see what they are doing because they are also having performance problems accessing Oracle on OpenVMS machines.

Thanks, for your message and I'll let you know what happens.
