Parity Systems, in conjunction with Ampex and Spectralogic have developed the fastest backup tool in the UNIX market.

The Hardware:

	19mm tape drive
	25,75,165 GB cartridge sizes
	15MB/sec sustained transfer rate
	20MB/sec burst transfer rate
	Head to tape speed-1200 inches/second
	SCSI-2 Wide Interface (16 bit)
	Can partition tapes, logical volumes
	Seek Time - 25GB (<27 sec), 75 (<50 seconds), 165GB (<2.5min
	this is worst case.
	Short rewind capability - rewinds to nearest written block
	Can Transfer 100GB in 1.8 hours. WOW!
	Also available in a library in 1.2TB and 6.4TB capabilities

The Software:
	Alexandria Backup Librarian
	14 UNIX Platforms (Servers and Clients)
	Uses TCP/IP Sockets for faster performance
	Stream Multiple Drives
	Keeps track of all vaulted media
	Manages Media - # of writes, storage time. ect.
	Promotes cleaning of heads via email to sysadmin
	FAST
	Can do raw partition backups for increased speeds
	Can do hot database backups on packages
