We have several "solutions" currently deployed to do exactly this for Oracle Financials. The best method we have found is to use ODBC as the connection method to the database and then write a progarm (Visual Basic for Applications) within Excel to handle the formatting and upload of the data. Until version 5.0 of Excel we used Oracle Glue instead of ODBC (Glue is faster), but when we upgraded to Excel 5.0 we moved to ODBC.
