[INSTALL HELP]: 7.1.6 and Solaris

I am installing Oracle 7.1.6 on a SPARCstation 20 (612-128) on loan from Sun. So, I don't have any system manuals or Solaris manuals. I do have the full Oracle document set.
I am getting the following error message when attempting to create a database through sqldba when issuing the startup nomount command:
ORA-7331: smsnsg: unable to allocate the variable portion of the SGA.
The system is vanillia with the exception of the /etc/system file which I have modified as recommended in the Oracle7 "Installation and Configuration Guide".
Any help with this would be appreciated.
