troubles with OWS on NT

I am having some interesting adventures trying to get Oracle7 Server (Workgroup Server, 90 day trial) installed and running on NT 3.5.

The first major problem I encountered was ORA-205 on trying to bring up the initial or "seed" database as some call it. This points to either control file not found, inability to grab control file in the correct mode (security problem of some sort), or some other control file difficulty.

I tried to re-install several times, sometimes with the "typical install" option and sometimes with "custom". Now I tend to get a different problem when I try to start up the initial database: the TCPIP listener will not start up, and the database apparently will not start w/o the listener being available.

anyone have any war stories or, preferably, answers on the above?

thanks

Doug
