It doesn't matter at all. The OFA installation is only a recommendation. If you install from scratch, following the OFA may be a good start. When you discuss something with somebody else outside, you may find you both are talking in the 'same language'. Many organisations, however, may already have their corporate standards that have to be adhered when Oracle is upgraded from v6 to v7. The OFA is, therefore, not applicable to them.

Oracle installation mannual introduced OFA, but it used DEFAULT installations such as '/home/oracle', etc. in some examples as well. Many people like you and me were all confused.
