MAC Client to OR7 on Sparc?????

I am trying to find the most direct network connection to Oracle Server running on a SunSparc, from a MAC Client.

The only client/server programming I've done connected a Motif/SUNOS client to an Informix DB server both running on the SUN platform, using OSF/DCE RPC to handle the network.

I'm trying to avoid several layers of middleware. But there's no DCE for the MAC. As I understand it, the only possibility is SQL*Net, which I invoke with another Oracle Product, the OCI (Oracle Call Interface??) It sounds like they require you to buy their "PRO-C" bundled with OCI. I'd rather use whatever's native to Oracle.

My questions are:

??: Is Oracle OCI/SQL*Net the closest I can come to the DCE RPC paradigm,
and is it the best way to go, given my situation?

??: Does SQL*Net talk to MacTCP or does it implement it's own direct
network, sockets type interface? If so, how? I've got MacTCP and a Farallon Etherwave NUBUS card with a twisted-pair connection to the SUN machine. The card handles the signal directionality. (I've got no hub and no other clients at present).

??: Do I have to buy/use Oracle's PRO-C or can I invoke SQL*Net API's from
within a THINK-C or CODEWARRIOR C program?

??: Is DAL another option? Is there a DAL server piece that run's on the
SUN? Does it work with ORACLE7?

Even if you're not familiar with DCE, any comments about SQL*Net and OCI on the MAC would be appreciated.
