You do not have to recompile if you are using SQL*Net. A V6 client can connect to a V7 database. If you recompile with V7 libraries then you are still in good shape. I have found no problems porting V6 OCI code to V7. There are some obsolete OCI calls that have been around since V5 that are dropped in V7. There are also some new OCI calls in V7 that you can use for higher performance; especially if you are using SQL*Net and going across a network, but I have not started using them yet...
