Personal Oracle7 Slow

Of course it's slow. It's a development environment.!!!! try Gupta, try Watcom, same deal. You don't run a real database on Personal Oracle (don't believe the marketing gibberish), but you use it as a tool to develop applications to a real Oracle database (server based). That's what I use it for . . . I write my app to Personal Oracle. Set up a real database on a server, change my apps connect string and away I go . . .

I've been to too many sites lately that run databases on single user Gupta and Watcom that just don't work. The guys who set it up did not have the client's best interests at heart (or didn't know what they were doing).

If you are running a stand alone database on a PC - use FoxPro or Paradox. That's what they are designed for.

this ranting is all IMHO.
