In article <ep94bvps.791916439_at_noh71cd>, ep94bvps_at_shell.com (Burton V. Peltier) says:

You do not say if your application is client/server or not. If it is, the following may be helpful...
I am currently working on a project using Oracle 7.1.3 on SCO Unix. The server is an IBM ValuePoint 60 Mhz Pentium. When I first got to the project, the entire thing was running off of one (count 'em: one) disk drive. We have since added two more disks to the SCSI controller and the performance is now very acceptable.
My recommendation is the same as for any Oracle installation - get as much memory as you can afford (I suggest at least 32MB) and go for several smaller disk drives instead of one or two big ones.
You will be able to conserve resources by using the MTS stuff.
In case you have an urgent need for Dead Connection Detection (like I do), beware that there is an outstanding bug (patch on the way but no date) in the SCO port of Oracle: SQL*Net V2 Dead Connection Detection does not work properly.
In any case, we have no (major) complaints. Good Luck.
