Hehe hehe hehe hahaha hahahaha hahaha :)
I am not trying to make fun of anybody but I am glad to see that I was not the only one who had problems with this. You can go on and read the Oracle FAQ, read all the help pages on passwords and User Manager. You will find no mention of a solution to the above problem. At least I didn't.
There is only one solution to the above problem. Purchase a support contract worth thousands of dollars ! *They* will give you the : "PROOF THAT YOU CAN". I mean if we could find everything we needed, in the accompanying docs, to effectively use the Database, how would the huge support departments be funded :) Sarcasm intended. Oracle makes *ALOT* of money from support contracts. While I really like the idea of letting people download the Oracle software and let them try it for 90 days. People like me who have been using small-time databases like Paradox and Foxpro to their limits were exposed to Oracle Server. But I am confused why Oracle tries to make things difficult for us small time people who can't afford tech support. I spent 2 days trying to login with a valid username and a password without any luck and eventually had to ask around. Then I spent 4 hours trying to *import* an ascii table, using *import* utility. After asking around I found out, I would need to use SQL*Loader. Import sounds to me like a simple way of doing it. Oh well. It looks to me like Oracle is trying to give us the "Proof, that you can't, without the expensive support plans, you can't"
User "SYSTEM"
Password "MANAGER"
This is one of the few built-in accounts. I am now wondering if anybody with TCP/IP capabilities can access my database with these passwords since I am now running SQL*Net TCP/IP. But as you would expect, answers to these basic questions with several others are not included with the documentation. If it weren't for wonderful people on the net, our computers would be Oracle-free by now.
I am only trying to make somebody at Oracle listen and help make the documentation that comes with Oracle, a little better than what it is.
