Have you seen "ORACLE DBA Handbook" by Kevin Loney from ORACLE Press? I highly recommend it for all sorts of questions regarding DBA issues. Also, they just published a book called "Performance Tuning for ORACLE", or something like that. I plan to get that in addition to the handbook.
One of the things that cracked me up in the handbook was a discussion of ideal hardware configuration. They started off with a 21 (!) disk solution, but then they whittled it down to seven. Of course, I only have two to work with. I guess you can solve anything with money. Regardless, it does present the issues involved in a clear manner. It's not bad as casual reading, either.
