Strong point?!?!?! IMHO, it seems to be the ONLY point of 4.5!!!
If rumors hold true.....Project-X will have a Visual Basic type language and possibly feel. So, I believe that 4.5 is an attempt to smooth out the bugs od 4.0 and to provide a better navigator for the developer. Also IMHO, it is Oracle's way of begging to stay with them and not move to a [sarcasm on] REAL GUI PRODUCT.[sarcasm off] In addition, many Oracle developers I know playing with beta 4.5 say the same thing...."It is STILL Oracle".
If you want to get ahead of the game. There is a product that will convert your SQL*Forms to Visual Basic. It is called _VISION_ _Knowledge_Engieering_ by Transtech Inc. (their number is 1-800-676-7374) (Saw their ad in DBMS magazine in Nov 1994)
My personal favorite is still Omnis 7^3 by Blyth Inc. They were the first to have a Mac GUI product (1984), the first to have a Windows GUI product (1986), and the first to have a cross-platform GUI product (1989). They have the ENTIRE solution for every member of your operation. Omnis is very scalable, very portable and very powerful. It can connect to almost any database, it looks the same across platforms, it has a version control system and a distribution control system. You can talk to my Blyth Acoount rep Paul Beswetherrick at 1-415-286-7158.
