-> I am trying to do a comparison between Oracle, Sybase and perhaps
-> Informix. Does anyone know of a recent comparison between the
-> products? I have collected some trade rags but find too many
-> differenes. I need an OLTP database to run on an RS6000 and a NLM
-> based product. Any help would be appreciated.

I've worked in Oracle and Informix. Oracle is like a 63 'Vette. Lotsa power but you feel the bumps.
Informix is like a Hyndai with Power Windows. Sooner or later you're gonna get crushed and the dressed up pieces won't save you!
One of the most frustrating aspects of Informix is reading the manual (which is pretty good) and it tells you that the SQL command which it is documenting is NOT implemented. Also, outer join logic is WRONG! When I called support concerning this, they kicked me to engineering which agreed with me, and promised a fast fix. Then they heard from some current users who depended on the incorrect behaviour, and buried the fix!
