	Sanford, I think you're screwed.
	As far as I know there is no way to perform an on-line backup of
	an oracle tablespace without copying the entire datafile.
	Your only alternative is to perform offline backups using
	exports.
	I would advise you to consider breaking this thing up into
	manageable sized pieces if possible.  It would enable you to
	set up a backup schedule that would back up a part of the database
	each day.
