Be aware that if you are using DROP USER CASCADE with 7.0, it does not necessarily free up the space occupied by the users objects. According to Oracle support here this is fixed in 7.1

The objects disappear from the data dictionary (eg. dba_tables, dba_indexes) but the space they occupied is not released. If you check dba_free_space, it has not appeared there.

According to Oracle's bug number 160602, the space should be cleaned up eventually, but I waited some days before dropping the tablespace. I had dropped a user with a large number of objects (about 500).

The workaround is to explicitly drop all the user's objects.

I saw this on 7.0.16 under Solaris 2.4, but believe it to be a generic problem.

Cathryn
