This flame war is going on for too long. I hoped that it would die out soon But it doesnt look like it's going to stop soon. I wanted to keep away from it. It's become unbearable, especially the postings from one Mr.DAvid Smith Tried to brush it off as an idle mind's work(like in the old saying which says something like "an idle mind is devil's workshop") . But seeing all the junk posted(that appiles to this one as well) , i thought i might as well butt-in. But in the future i definitely will try not to post any more junk. That's a promise. BTW , i am not a green card holder nor am i here(in US) on H1. I am not an illegal immigrant either. I just "happened" to be here for some time. And very soon i will be back in my "wretched home land" minding my own business.
I do not see what's the problem ailing David Smith. Is it immigration
as a whole or is it just immigration as refered to Software Engrs or is
it the so called "policy" of Oracle hiring foreigners?
If it is just immigration , then that is something to be handled by the
US govt. Oracle newsgroup(for that matter, any comp news group) is not
a forum for discussing/resolving such issues. But i do agree that
(illegal) immigration is a "problem" , not just for U.S and the developed
nation. It happens in developing (read "impoverished") countries like India
also, believe me. But there is a humanitarian aspect also. If u have the
resources what is wrong in saving a few thousand unfortunate lives, who
just happened to be borne in the wrong side of the world. BTW let me ask
David Smith something(i think others have also raised this). Are u a native
American Indian? If not , then u also fall in to the category of an immigrant
and probably an illegal one. Your ancestors must have fled from their
"wretched home land". Thanks to grandpa David Smith, u are in a position
to make extremely racial/neo-nazi comments. Now, pls dont argue that some
of the remarks u made about Indians were not racial. If u were trying to
make a point about the Oracle "hiring practise" what was the significance
of those remarks.
Let me tell u a few facts about the Software engnr from India. He is not
definitely somebody "fleeing from their wretched home land" becuase he
cannot find a job in India. No U.S company/agent will hire a jobless engnr
from India(or any other country).
In India, software industry is one of the highly paid sector. The reason for
coming to U.S for job is to make more money than what he is getting in
India(in most of the cases). What's wrong with that? It is just like switching
job from one company to other for better prospects or for job satisfaction or
whatever reason. If tomorrow some european country offers a better paid job
than what u are getting now , i think a lot of people including David Smith the
anti-immigration mesiah will kiss good bye to U.S. And who knows, may be after a
few decades later grandson David Smith will be chanting about stopping
immigration in that country.
If u are worried about the unemployement problem faced by the "qualified"
American youth, then there is no point in singling out Oracle. If u think
that if Oracle stops hiring H-1 holders then all the unemployement
problem in U.S will be resolved, then u are dreaming. Remember the lay-offs
happening in companies all over U.S, because of losses. There will be
still unemployement even if the U.S govt abolishes H-1. Who knows, there could
be some sick companies who have benefitted from H-1 policy either monetarirly
or skill wise. If we assume that Oracle is making profit by hiring
foreigners, then at least some people(including Americans) do not have to
worry about lay-offs. Personally, i feel that if a person is qualified enough
no matter what colour of skin he has or what "card" he has , it wont be
difficult to find a job(a job which is related to his qualification, i mean).
Also, i always thought , in the software industry the ratio of
requirement/availability is high (may be i'm wrong!!).
BTW if u were just looking for some "fun" through the flame wars may i
suggest another news group- "rec.sport.cricket". There are some real
"professionals" out there.
