We are developing an application in Sybase under VMS on AlphaAXP machines. One component of our system will involve loading, eventually, several million rows/several gigabytes of data per month. While Sybase is fine for most of our application, the VLDB side of the house may be better managed under Oracle, which seems to have more of a track record.

I would be interested in hearing any comments/suggestions/warnings from folks who are running Oracle VLDBs, perhaps using SMP and RAID technology. If you are also running VMS, that would be good to know too.

Is Oracle bette than Sybase in a VLDB environment? Does it use multiple processors effectively?

Thanks for any info!
