To my knowledge Oracle has not yet certified a release to run under Solaris 2.4 yet. Also note that there are two separate releases of Oracle for Sun SPARC. One specifically for SunOS 4.1.X (Solaris 1.X) and another for Sun Solaris 2.X (at one point referred to as SunOS 5.X).

While it may be possible to get Oracle for SunOS 4.1 release to work under Solaris 2.X, it is not recommended or officiallly supported. Can't comment as to which is better but it is safe to say that all work is moving toward Solaris 2.X since that is the direction Sun is moving in.

Probably. Depends on available resources. Other than that I know of no problems with databases stepping on each other if administered correctly.
