I've had problems with having multiple dbwriters under solaris 2.3. The database comes up ok, but if you try to do anything that updates the control file, like adding a file to a tablespace, or dropping a tablespace, the database writers seem to trip over themselves trying to update the control file.
I have set db_writers = 1 and async_write=true. I've been told that the async_write is equivalent to having multiple database writers.
