I'm looking into similar scenarios and 7.0 and 7.1 seem to offer a lot. There's an Oracle white paper called 'ORACLE7 Symmetric Replication' which i found pretty useful. Your sales rep should be able to get you a copy (that's where i got mine from) as well as other good info on this.
