Yes, it is a strange question. If you read it again, keep in mind the person is using consultation and contracting interchangeably. I had a series of e-mail with this person, and initially I made the same bad assumption that you are making - I saw "PC" and assumed it was some 22 year-old with 10 years of PC "experience." In fact, he's an experienced software engineer and contractor, and IMHO could actually do what he is suggesting: come up to speed rapidly and get some consultation work. With the extreme shortage of Oracle contract workers, people can do it even if they are complete BS artists. I know I've met some of those! And yes, they give the rest of us a bad name. That was one minor consideration in me personally giving up contract work. (And I miss it! Just last night, in fact, a major TV studio wanted me to continue an old contract... oh well! [not Oracle, you buzzards! And yes, it is an example where they would not/should not pay someone new to the software.]) IMHO, experienced analysts are more important than coders in any specific dialect anyway. Depending... I'm certainly not recommending anyone contract someone with no DBA experience who took a DBA class to be their DBA!
