How big a Sun to run Oracle 7? How much RAM?

We are currently running Oracle 7 under Solaris 2.3 on a Sparcstation 2 with 40 megs of memory, and, probably not to your surprise, it is slow, even for a single database user. It's clearly upgrade time and I'm sizing up various Sparcstation 20 configs; the model 502 looks like a nice amount of bang for the buck. The questions:

  • how much CPU power do we need for how many users?
  • Is a single fast CPU, such as a model 61, better or worse than a slower multi-cpu, like a model 502 or 514?
  • how much RAM should the system have? Mine is paging pretty heavily, so I assume more than 40.

Thanks,
