Oracle for Image DB?

I am looking to compile a client/server database of images. The problem seems to be the size of the database which wil comprise over 5 million high res images. I need it to have fast retrieval, and a good database engine. If Oracle isn't appropriate, is there anyother software config I should be looking at?
