Yep - forgot to mention that. If you have Excel 4.0 on your system (especially if installed from shrinkwrap using mostly defaults) you will have an ancient version of ora6win.dll in your excel directory wihich Microsoft insists on putting near the beginning of your PATH string while Oracle adds to the end.

Make sure you have ONE AND ONLY ONE oraXwin.dll and that it is the latest.
