One of our clients has an 8GB database (data + index + rollback) and it takes about 3.5 hours to back up to DAT tape using HP-UX fbackup (running on a 755 with fast/wide SCSI) NOTE: your hardware will greatly impact this performance!!!

: tape back to disk.

One final note, if you plan on having to restore from tape, don't forget to backup/archive raw data from the time of the last full backup. The strategy we typically use is a full backup once weekly, nightly incrementals of system (sans database). ALL raw data is kept on line until the full backup is completed (and verfied).
