Help!!

When I try to fire up oracle on a Solaris machine I get:

SQLDBA> startup
ORACLE instance started.

ORA-07497: sdpri: cannot create trace file '/vend/oracle/rdbms/log/6_3629.trc'; errno = 24.
ORA-01116: error in opening database file '/fs13/vend/oracle/chvlandPUGSLEY.dbf'
ORA-07362: sfifi: open error, unable to open file.

SVR4 Error: 24: Too many open files
Attempting to dismount database........Database dismounted. Attempting to shutdown instance........ORACLE instance shut down. SQLDBA> Any suggestions would be most appreciated.....I just saw some users going by with a rope. Hmmmmm. Please email.....
