I would start with 7, it will be harder to migrate a huge database from 6 to 7. And seriously look at 7.1, the Parallel Query version. Its probably beta now, but I'll bet they'll be ready by IOUW in Sept. .

I've worked on some decent sized stuff. 5 million rows is not that hard for Oracle, especially with some the super fast hardware that is available now. You might want to look at a Sun 2000 and get it 4 or more processors, its a real barn burner. Or if you can get anything you want, a massively parallel box from NCube. Another good MP box is from an outfit called KSR someplace in Mass. Get a good DBA, one that's been around awhile. .
