A client is running Oracle version 6.0.34.2.1 on SCO UNIX 3.2v4.2 and yesterday afternoon found themselves unable to start up the database.

The startup script runs SQLDBA with the STARTUP command. Running this from the shell gives the following output:

SQLDBA> startup
ORACLE instance started.
Database mounted.

whereupon it hangs. The database instance and PFILE are set prior to running SQLDBA.

Are they hosed? (I'm a developer, not DBA).

Thanks,

Patrick May
