What's the best machine?

We're getting a new machine (hooray) to run our new database on (boo!) and we'd like some guidance on the best hardware platform to go for.

The database is version 6 (is version 7 faster/better? or just more twiddly?), with about 100 tables, with a minimum of 10GB of data, and probably about 100 concurrent users.

We are currently looking at a Sparc Server 1000 or Sparc Center 2000, running Solaris 2.2 or 2.3. Sun aren't being particularly forthcoming on the performance of this sort of arrangement :-)

Does anyone know of any setups like this, or any bugs/limits in the hardware  or software of this arrangement which would trip us up or slow us down?
