PRO*C How to end a SQL command ?!!!!

Hello netters :
I am getting a frequent error message when I try to embed some SQL statements in a C program :
' SQL command not properly ended '
The problem only occurs when I PREPARE the statement from a character string. Does anybody have any clues what might be the problem? I am quite new to C so it may be a problem with null characters or something.
