SQL*Net/PC-NFS problem

We have just installed PC-NFS 5.0 at our site. Before that we were using Microsoft's TCP/IP for W4WG to access an Oracle 7 server at a remote Unix site.

Using PC-NFS we can access the Oracle server just fine using Q+E Database Editor, but trying to log on from a Windows program developed in-house produces error ORA-6106: socket creation failed. The SQL*Net manual has the following to say about the cause of this error:

"SQL*Net TCP/IP driver failed to create a communication channel for      data transfers. The system file table is probably full."

Which settings affect this? I've tried increasing the FILES-entry in CONFIG.SYS, but to no avail.

Any and all hints will be appreciated.
