I'm trying to make contact with people in the world who have some knowledge and/or experience running Oracle database software on a SUN platform running SunOS.

We have 2 target machines : 1) Sun SPARC 10 with 80 meg/ SunOS V 4.1.8

                            2) Sun SPARC IPX with 64 meg/ SunOS V 4.1.8

My company, Smiths Industries is planning to use Oracle for its next database development effort and as its standard for the future.

I am a VAX/VMS Rdb/DBA but have been chosen to be one of the DBA's to design the database and manage Oracle in the Unix environment.

My first questions to you are :

  1. What seem to be the best features about running Oracle on Sun/Unix ?
  2. Are there any 'gotchas' not mentioned by the 'sales-es' ?
  3. What application software are you using ? (good/bad?)
  4. Will the Solaris OS pose insurmountable problems ?

I would be grateful for any direction you could point me in where I could gather information about Oracle in a Sun/Unix environment.

Thanks,
